Your Wedding, Your Wine - Three Ideas To Make It Memorable

We know that you could save thousands of dollars if you make your own wine to serve your guests at your wedding. And if you do decide to do that, not only can you save money, you can also stamp your homemade wine with your personality to make the event that much more special. Let's look at some things you might want to think about and plan for:

What's Your Style?

Traditionally, white wine comes in clear bottles, while red wine generally is bottled in bottles with a green tint to them. Other tinted colors such as brown are also used to bottle red wine. There are also a variety of shapes of bottles but the most commonly sold at home winemaking supply shops is the standard "Bordeaux" style bottle. It is quite possible that your local wine supply shop will only carry green and clear Bordeaux bottles, so you may not be aware that there are a variety of bottle styles and colors that you can choose from. How about Cobalt Blue colored bottles for your red wine? You might be able to match the wine bottle color to your main colors of your wedding reception.

Perhaps you have a favorite bottle but can't locate it in the retail market - something like the unique shaped bottle that La Fiore Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes in. Find a restaurant that sells that wine and ask them to keep those bottles for you instead of throwing them into their trash or recycle bin. All you'll need to do is rinse them out and sanitize them, and you can then fill them with your wine.

Whatever you decide, it's best to have your red wine in a bottle that is a different color from your white wine bottles for easy identification.

What's In A Label?

Although many of the more expensive wine kits come with attractive labels that identify the grape variety or style the wine is made from, most of the less expensive kits do not have such labels. However, your local wine supply shop will likely have a large selection of labels that you simply moisten and then stick on your bottles. But there are other options as well. You could have your own custom labels, designed by you. Information on the label could include the type of wine as well as the bride and groom's name and the date of marriage. You could choose your own graphics that will go on the label.

Know someone artistic? For some extra pizazz, ask them if they will hand paint the bottles for you instead of you sticking on labels. If you find such a person, be sure to have some extra bottles of your wine to give them as a thank you gift for all that work!

To match the label, be sure to choose capsules that co-ordinate with the colors of the label and the bottle. Capsules offer additional protection to the cork closures in the bottle.

To Cork Or Not

Although some believe that using synthetic cork is a sign of an inferior product when it comes to wine, this is absolutely not true. Many of the finest vineyards in the world are moving towards synthetic corks and even screw top openings for their wines. There are many reasons for this which is beyond the scope of this article, but you will have two choices as far as the closures you use on your homemade wine bottles: Natural cork and synthetic cork.

When making the decision whether to use natural or synthetic cork, consider where and how you will be storing your bottles of wine before the wedding. If using natural cork, you will need to be storing your wine filled bottles on their sides, ensuring the cork is in constant contact with the wine. This helps to prevent the cork from drying out and shrinking, which could allow for air to enter the bottle, oxidizing your wine. If you will need to store your bottles standing up, then definitely choose the synthetic cork which does not shrink, and therefore does not need to be in constant contact with the wine inside the bottle.

If you are going to go with the more traditional natural cork, choose the best and longest corks you can get, especially if you are going to be aging your wine for more than a year. They offer the best protection to your wine in the long run. Stay away from "conglomerate" cork which is made up of pieces of cork, glued together and then shaped. Stick with the best cork stoppers you can find.

Planning your own homemade wine can be an exciting and fun activity for your wedding! Not only will you save a ton of money, but you'll have an opportunity to put even more of a stamp of the character of the bride and groom on that special day that will be remembered for a long time!

Sweet fragrance and delicate features seem to overflow from the nursery. My small precious infant lay asleep in her crib. From this moment on I knew that I needed to protect and nurture her. The first place to start was her surroundings... Looking around at the nursery, the walls seemed bare and not aesthetically pleasing. They needed to be stimulating and give the child a feeling of security.

From statistics I read my husband and I were part of the majority which means not wealthy. We were actually living paycheck to paycheck. I thought about painting the walls but would that do my daughters room justice. What were needed are pieces of art that would make her room a haven. Some form of decor that would create visual effects and provide depth and creativity.

Low and behold there was an entire genre of wall foam art. Searching on the internet, it was easy to locate many designs, colors and themes. There were almost too many different patterns, sizes and styles. I was having a difficult time in deciding which would be the perfect theme for my daughter’s bedroom. They all had some favorable characteristics in common. They were affordable, soft and safe, durable and designed to stretch the child’s imagination.

As my daughter grew, the foam wall art would grow with her. Some of these pieces were stickers that you could keep rearranging on the wall. This helps your child with interaction and learning. We are all aware that the first few years of a child’s life is crucial. With outlets to promote growth your baby is bound to succeed.

Since my daughter could not chime in to help me with the direction of what theme to select, that meant I was on my own. My favorite characters growing up was Winnie the pooh and company. So for one wall in the middle I placed a large foam Pooh Bear that was sleeping on a cloud.

It came with three hooks that you could hang accessories on. When you pressed his belly it played a tune. Included in the design was a bell ringing Tigger, a horn tooting Piglet and a whistling Eeyore. They came on a roll that was pre-cut and could be removed and reused. They seemed to give the appearance of popping right out of the wall.

On the wall close to the crib was the entire alphabet and numbers from one to fifty. These were bold bright colors and three dimensional. My mind was racing as I placed the foam wall art all around the wall with curiosity on what was going through my babies mind. As I worked I called out each letter and number watching for some spark in her eyes.

On the wall furthest from the crib there were glow in the dark foam cutouts of butterflies, stars, lady bugs, bumble bees, daisies and other flowers all in vibrant colors. The stars when touched activated and played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They seemed to brighten up the room and simultaneously promote fun and playful interaction.

For the finale there were pictures of the entire family including the dog on foam wall art that I had custom made and proudly hung for all to see. This did cost a bit more but it seemed to bring the room together. As she would get older we could keep adding more.

To an outsider looking in this room, it gives the impression of having been decorated on a much higher budget. So if you are on a tight budget, with a little imagination and the help of foam wall art, your baby’s room will be all that you desire.

Remember the photo sleeve pages that we used to just slip our photos into? They displayed photos so they were easy to look at, but they weren't very decorative. It was hard to put any feeling or personality into the pages, and there was little room to write information.

Scrapbooks have become very popular and offer a wide variety of ways to display photos, along with memorabilia and journaling. A huge selection of papers and embellishments allow us to express ourselves.

What if you're not sure you have the time and creativity to make a scrapbook, but you want something with more personality than a plain photo sleeve album? Have I got some ideas for doing scrapbooking for you.

Let's take a look at some of the ways we can compromise between the stark feel of a photo sleeve album and the elaborate designs of a scrapbook. Who says that all the pockets of a photo sleep page have to be filled with pictures? There are no rules against matting a photo or adding some stickers.

If this has piqued your interest, keep reading. We'll look at some scrapbook page layout ideas to add interest and personality to your album. You'll be on your way to completed albums before you know it.

Titles – If you would like to use a page title, just create one on a 4 X 6 card and slip it into one of the pockets. Use a bold tip pen or stickers.
Journaling – Use one of the pockets to include journaling. Just write your journaling on a 4 X 6 card or paper and slip it in. Use pre-made journaling boxes or create your own. For an enhanced look, add a sticker or other embellishment.
Mat Photos – Mat some of the photos. You may need to crop the photo down slightly to allow the mat to show around it. You can mat the photo with an even border all the way around. Another fun option is to crop the photo smaller and mat the photo with extra space to one side. This area can be used for journaling or some embellishments. Smaller size photos can be matted to fit into the pockets.
Panoramic photos – To fit panoramic photos in, cut the photo into two sections. Place them in to adjacent pockets

Memorabilia – Memorabilia such as postcards, recipes, tickets and greeting cards can be placed in pockets as well. If the item is too large, crop it down or scan the item and print a copy in the 4 X 6 size to fit.

And you thought photo sleeve albums had to be boring. Guess again! You are only limited by your imagination. This is a fun alternative for those that want to create simple albums quickly, but don't want to give up all the fun of scrapbooking. Go ahead give these ideas for doing scrapbooking a try.
