During a recession, the holiday season may prove to be a bit of a struggle this year. There are certain cutbacks people are taking in this time of economic downfall. From skipping holiday cards to skipping the family dinners all together, it’s unfortunate to see the damper that’s put on so many people’s holiday traditions this year. Here are some common limitations families are participating in to make it through this Christmas.
Not sending holiday cards.
This is due to the increasing price of stamps and the need to buy holiday cards all together. It’s a shame that this tradition is taking its cuts this year, one of the greatest joys of Christmastime has got to be receiving greetings from everyone you love.
Ticket price maximum.
Some families are setting a ten dollar limit on their holiday gifts this year. This is not all that bad, as Christmas is more about being together than giving toys. However, little boys who are used to getting Paintball Guns may be a little disappointed this year when all they get is batteries.
Less holiday lights.
Some families aren’t even putting up a Christmas tree this year. Now that is sad. Whether it be the lack of motivation from getting laid off or the limited cash for buying the tree families this year are skipping this tradition all together. It’s too bad that the best part of Christmas may not make it this year. It’s reported that most people are skipping Christmas lights and the usual holiday decor. Cities are cutting back on the seasonal lighting to cut back on energy costs as well.
No more St. Nick.
Many people celebrate the holiday of St. Nicholas on December 6th. This is when you hang your stockings and find a gift, sort of a pre-Christmas morning. Most families skipped this tradition as well because it’s hard enough to get their kids anything on their list as it is.
Unfortunately, families are doing all they can to cut back on holiday traditions and keep enough in their banks. That’s okay, just remember what Christmas is really about. It’s about giving, being together, and loving life. Merry Christmas!
