Ideas For Decorating Your Kids' Rooms

Kids room decorating are an opportunity waiting to come to life! No where else can you mix and match a variety of paint schemes along with creative stencils, stickers, sparkles and get away with it. Best of all, your kids can be involved in transforming their room into their own accomplishments while redecorating at the same time.

Some creative ideas on decorating kid's bedrooms:

Furniture - Make a whole play area from an ordinary bookcase. Choose bright colors that match your child style and add features such as cutout doors for a doll house or castle effect. Add texture materials to one or two compartments that create a window or door like feature. When your child has out-grown the design, you can easily remove the materials and doors and replace them with the original materials that you saved. Other ideas can be used with Lego or large building blocks to create more designs to match your child's age.

Walls - Turn your kid's walls in a big canvas. Paint is the perfect solution and least expensive way to create a kaleidoscope impact while offering unlimited color options. Just changing one wall or adding stripes, borders, sponge or stamping techniques can bring new life to an ordinary room. Use wavy or splat design patterns, or turn one wall into a mural effect. Choose a bright base and pick accent colors to achieve the best effects.

Ceiling - Create a magical night sky on your child's ceiling with glow in the dark decorations. These can be fun and even comforting for your child to be able to lie in bed and gaze up at the night stars

Doors - Use wooden letters that spell your child's name and glue them on the door. Painting them in the theme color of your child room will dress up the door nicely. Closet door hardware can be replaced with wiggly handles or their favorite cartoon character. By matching the door hardware with wall plates you can carry the pattern through out the room that accents their style.

Shelves - Using shelving materials can be the least expensive way to pick up the clutter and organize a room. Painting with the same colors or add design features with stencil or stamping can quickly dress up any room. Different shelve designs can also be used to border a window that eliminate the need for expensive window treatments.

Accessories - Large cork boards can quickly turn a bare wall into a busy space. Cork boards also eliminate holes in walls from nails or tacks that later need to be repaired. Wooden picture frames can be painted to help accent the room. Fans blades can be reversed and painted with designs to add cool effects when in use and then can be reversed when it comes time to re-decorate.

Decorating your kid's bedroom is a great way to give them a place they can call their own and you may just find your kid spending more time in there!

FujiPla ALM 3220 Automatic Laminator Review

As a fairly unique laminating machine on the market, the Fujipla ALM 3220 offers the user almost unheard of functions such as automatic feeding and trimming capabilities. In the following review we will dive in for a closer look at the ALM 3220, and will list for you what we believe are its strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths:

With capacities that were virtually unheard of just a few years ago, it seems that the ALM 3220 is positioning itself as the next generation in laminating machines. This is a machine that is incredibly easy to use, versatile, and accurate. To use it, all you have to do is to load the feeder with the prints you intend to laminate and press start. Depending on the type of project you are working on, in many cases you can simply set the machine to run and walk away to do other work. The ALM 3220 pretty much eliminates most manual labor from the process.
We like that the ALM 3220 features a warm-up time of less than five minutes. That is pretty good for a machine with this kind of capacity. It also makes it a great fit for an on demand print environment.
We found that loading film into the ALM 3220 was very easy with the color-coded cartridges.
The ALM 3220 uses SAP film that will adhere to any type of print, is anti static, and is available in 1.5, three, and five mil gloss and matte finishes, as well as a 1.7 mil nylon film for single sided use and applications.
The ALM 3220 is a machine that is designed for fast setup. There are preset widths for the trimming mechanism, and we really appreciated the digital touch screen that allows the user to set the temperature, speed, and even the margin control with ease.

Weaknesses:

For all its features, the ALM 3220 can only laminate documents with a maximum width of 12.6 inches. In a perfect world, such a feature rich machine would be able to process larger documents, but we'll take what we can get.
The trimmer widths are preset and non adjustable. The margins are fixed, thus there can be no fine tuning during the process. The length however is automatic and it can be adjusted.
With a maximum speed of four feet per minute, you could make the case that the ALM 3220 is a little on the slow side. It is important to remember, however, that at the end of the process, your documents will be both laminated and trimmed. There is virtually no other labor involved. That is pretty remarkable.
Though the ALM 3220 will likely require very little maintenance, it is recommended that, if at all possible, a local dealer be called in to help you install the machine and to give you a training session. If maintenance is required, you will also need to make sure that there is a local service tech available that has been trained to service this particular unit (it isn't exactly like any other type of laminator).
The ALM 3220 is not an inexpensive machine. In fact, with a price tag of around eighteen thousand dollars many organizations have a hard time justifying the cost of this machine. However, busy in-plant print facilities, school districts and print shops may find that the labor savings offered by this machine make it possible to justify the capital expense that it represents.

Christmas and the holidays are coming and the age old problem presents itself as to what to give everyone on your gift list. With the economic climate influx and money tight, the question becomes one of how to give a unique one of a kind gift that will make a memorable impression and will be cherished throughout generations to come. What truly has value and is worth cherishing is something that has been loved throughout time and has a provenance attached to it.

Who wouldn’t love a great one of kind gift??? Who wouldn’t want something special that no one else will have??? Who doesn’t love gifts that are unique and rare and have an amazing history??? Do you find it hard enough to find something wonderful for the special loved ones on your gift list… without having to break the bank to get it?

You have scoured the malls and specialty shops and have seen a lot of the same things everywhere you go. Yes you can find the greatest and latest Wii product or technological gadget and other fantastic gift ideas but all of them cost more than you can afford at the moment. Money is tight and your list is longer than your bank account will allow. Also not everyone on your gift list would derive pleasure from such things and the traditional tie and shirt or some new device for the kitchen just seems a little impersonal and predictable.

The best gifts are those that have been loved before and have a whole lot more loving left in them. Antiques are great and unexpected gifts for just about anyone on your Holiday Gift list. Antiques are unique, one of a kind and have amazing histories that can be enjoyed now and handed down throughout the generations.

How about Aunt Tilly? Wouldn’t she love a beautiful real shell cameo from the late 1800’s? Or Grandpa? Would he not think the old watch chain and fob from the 1920’s or the cufflinks from the 1950’s were a great choice for him? Then there is the teenage daughter… would she not love some of the trendy jewelry pieces from the 1960’s? Or YOU ?? Rhinestones are IN and HOT for the holidays but the new rhinestone sparkly pieces are very expensive and are cheaply made.

The gift of an antique, above all else inspires sharing, togetherness and storytelling… “I remember when” kind of moments. They evoke a time and place when the worries of terror attacks, drugs and murder were unheard of. They are a piece of history and an amazing testament to how our predecessors lived and loved. And the amazing thing about an antique is how it survived after all of these years. Someone loved the item so much that they went to great care to ensure its survival beyond their own.

An antique given as a gift is perceived as being truly thought about with having enormous intrinsic and extrinsic value.

Living in Charleston, SC the birthplace of the Civil War, I have had the good fortune to own many beautiful and meaningful pieces of history. At Christmas a number of years ago I was given a two sided locket with glass on both the front and back. Inside the glass on each side was hair, a lock of blonde and a lock of red. Inside the locket were two photos of very young men or really boys. Engraved on the frame below one of the photos was the date 8-24-63 and below the other was 1-14-64. These “boys” were brothers and were Confederate soldiers and each had died during the Civil War. Their grieving mother had encased their memory and wore this locket close to her heart until her death in 1877. Over the years I have discovered that this is called MOURNING jewelry and such things had become quite popular during the Civil War. Often the family would weave intricate patterns with the hair of their lost loved one and would turn them into earrings, brooches, watch chains, and even framed artwork. To have been given this locket by someone who loves me it has become a wonderful symbol of love and loss and has truly given a whole new meaning to getting a gift.

Another time I was fortunate to find a pair of very elaborate repousse (embossed) dangly earrings at, of all places, the local Goodwill store. I found them among broken chains, cheap plastic hoop earrings and a couple bangle bracelets and the price written on them was $.50/pr. I took them home and did a little research to find out that a similar pair is shown in Jeanenne Bell’s Collecting Victorian Jewelry book and they were described as being from the late 18th century and were 18k gold with real rubies and pearls and had a value of $1,850.00!!. I gave this pair of early Georgian earrings to my mother… they were for pierced ears and since she felt too old at 92 years to have her ears pierced she often worn one on a chain as a pendant. She loved and cherished them and upon her death this past September, I now have them back in my possession and am deciding who to pass them onto next.

So as you can see if you know where to look and are a little lucky and a lot informed you can find wonderful Christmas and Holiday gifts for very little money which will be prized and enjoyed as family heirlooms and treasures.

In summary, everything is not always worth what is paid yet some of the treasures you find may be priceless. The keepsakes you find and give will bring joy to their lucky recipients.

Be Safe with Body Art

It may seem like a cool idea to use your body as a medium for artistic expression. Body art has become the "in" thing to do among today's generation, young and old alike. One cannot walk down the street, go to the mall, or watch TV without seeing somebody with a tattoo on the arms, nape, navel, ankle or piercings in the ears, lips, nostrils, eyebrows, belly buttons, tongues, and cheeks. Piercings can now be done on just about any part of the body.
But before you think of getting one for yourself to ride on the bandwagon of being "cool" --- you might want to know first how safe it is and the things you need to be aware of if you do decide to have one. A tattoo or piercing may take only a few minutes or hours to acquire but may cause possible risks of bacterial infections which may lead to long term medical conditions. Getting a tattoo should not lead to health complications and lifetime of regret.
So here are a few short notes on some of the more popular types of body art:
Body Art
Body art is considered an extension of performing arts where the artist makes use of his or her own body for the purpose of artistic expression. Body art comes in different forms, the most common of which are tattoos and body piercings. Other types of body art are called scarification, branding, "scalpelling", shaping, full body tattoo and body painting.

Tattoos
A tattoo, also known as dermal pigmentation, is a permanent mark or design made on the skin by inserting pigments through pricks into the skin's top layer for decorative purposes. The procedure entails repeated piercing of a needle into the skin. With every puncture of the needle that is connected to a small machine with tubes containing dye, it injects ink droplets into the skin. There is small amount of bleeding involved in this process which may last for several hours depending on the size of the tattoo design. The process may cause slight to moderate pain.
The skin acts as the human body's main protective barrier. Getting a tattoo puts a person at high risk of skin infections, allergic reactions, blood-borne diseases, skin disorders, as well as MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) complications.
After getting a tattoo, healing usually takes several days. When it becomes itchy, avoid picking at scabs. It may increase the risk of bacterial infections and can also damage the design.
Some people may decide to have their tattoos removed when the design becomes faded or when the design no longer appeals to them. However, complete removal may be very difficult as tattoos are intended to be permanent marks. Though there are many tattoo removal techniques nowadays, scarring and skin discoloration are likely to be left on the skin.
Body Piercing
Body piercing is the insertion of jewelry into any parts of the human body. Body piercing poses certain risks similar to those when you get a tattoo. However, modern improvements in safety procedures and equipment have made earlobe piercing very popular as it is generally less risky than other body piercings.
Traditional body piercing is done with no anesthesia and, as such, is a painful experience. But modern techniques in earlobes-piercing makes safe use of ear piercing gun with sterilized, disposable cartridges. This single-use piercing device or gun includes one earring stud and clasp, and comes in individually wrapped sterile packages.
For other body piercings, a hollow needle is pushed through a body part to insert a piece of jewelry into the hole. The use of a reusable piercing gun for these types of piercings can put a person at risk of bacterial infections. These devices are difficult to sterilize and can easily damage the skin.
Choosing a reputable piercing and tattoo studio minimizes your chance of getting complications. These establishments employ trained and licensed tattoo and piercing artists. You can be assured of quality service as well as a clean environment. Remember, anytime the skin is punctured, there is a risk of skin infection. More than just getting an intricately designed tatoo or sporting that diamond-studded nose piercing, it's important to know that it's cool to be safe.
