The Essential Elements of a Scrapbooking Kit
There are a number of different elements which form the essential parts of any scrapbooking kit. The cost of these will vary depending on the manufacturer but it is important to buy the best possible quality of items for your regular kit to ensure that your projects are made to last for generations to come.
Every scrapbooking kit begins with the choice of album. There are many varieties to choose from but without an album to actually place your scrapbooking project in, no scrapbooking kit is complete. The size, colour and style of the album depend on the type of project that you are intending to create. It is often a good idea to start out with a relatively small album as part of your initial scrapbooking kit until you are comfortable with designing larger layouts. It is worth remembering that a 12x12 album is the industry standard but a lot of people have an 8x10 album as part of their basic kit.
Adhesives form an essential part of any scrapbooking kit, because without them you will be unable to fix any photographs or other items into the album. The two main types of adhesive are permanent and temporary. It is best to have both types in your scrapbooking kit as you need the temporary during the planning stage and the permanent to finalise the position of items.
Photo-safe paper is vital for almost every level of scrapbooking kit, unless you are not going to be using photographs at any time, but it is always worth spending the extra money, just in case.
A trimmer is an important item for any scrapbooking kit but many people start with a good pair of scissors. Of course there are a number of specialist cutters and other tools that are a bonus to have but are not vital for your first scrapbooking kit.
A journaling pen is the final implement that every scrapbooking kit should include. The two types of pen that are used are dye-based and pigment-based. Dye-based pens are not waterproof. Both forms of pen should be part of your basic scrapbooking kit to allow for flexibility where necessary.
In addition to the essential elements of a scrapbooking kit there are a multitude of items that every scrapbooker would love to have available for their use. Stickers, die cuts, decorative rulers, punches and fancy pens are not vital components of a scrapbooking kit but are often used by more experienced scrappers.
