Will You Have A Baby Boy or Baby Girl?

For some expectant parents, finding out if they're going to have a baby boy or baby girl is something they must do well before the due date; while other parents prefer to wait and make it a surprise. Whatever your preference, having a baby is something that is filled with excitement, with or without the added element of surprise. Often, finding out the gender can be a matter of practicality as you prepare the nursery and buy clothes for the baby-to-be. From sports-themes for baby boy to princess themes for baby girl, it can be thrilling for the parent to get everything set for their baby. If you choose to find out your baby's gender, you can pick out her name ahead of time and have everything ready to go when she comes home. The important thing is that you get to bring home a healthy baby, whatever the gender might be.

Scrapbooking Supplies

Scrapbooking has become an all time favorite hobby for millions of people! What started out with just the basic supplies of decorative paper, stickers and borders, has grown into a wide range of scrapbooking supplies! Supplies can be purchased at craft/hobby stores, retail stores, hobby shows, or online, as well as found around your home. Whether you're a novice or a pro, here are some supplies you'll want to keep on hand.
•   The basics. Keep a stock of: glue sticks, adhesive tabs, 2-way tape, transparent tape and scissors on hand.
•   Paper. You'll want a variety of paper: 12"x12" themed paper, 8.5"x11" themed and solid paper, cardstock, etc.   Remember to keep your scraps as well; they come in handy!
•   Albums/page inserts. It's good to have a couple of plain albums that can be customized and several page inserts.
•   Hole punchers. There are different types of hole punchers, such as seasonal, rounded corners or initials. Whether you're making a card, a scrapbook page or a photo frame, the hole punchers come in handy.
•   Rubber stamps. Some people enjoy adding a design to their scrapbooking craft with rubber stamps. Stamp options are endless and the ink color choices are plentiful.
•   Stencils. Stenciling adds a fun element to scrapbooking. You can stencil borders, names, frames, etc.
•   Stickers. There are all sorts of stickers...clear, diecut, dimensional, embossed, glitter, etc. Because stickers are small and can be time consuming to sort through, use an inexpensive photo album that has self-adhesive pages to store your stickers. Simply place similar stickers on an album sheet and place the plastic over it. You'll be able to search for a sticker quickly and it won't be bent.
•   Color markers and pens. Keep a good supply of markers and pens on hand. For most projects, you'll want permanent markers or pens with a fine tip.
•   Paper cutter. A paper cutter is a great tool to keep on hand. Whether you're trimming a picture, cutting a sheet of paper in half, etc., a paper cutter gives you a good sharp edge.
•   Decorative items. You can never have too many little items on hand...buttons, ribbons, rose petals, glitter, sequins, beads, foil accents, prepackaged embellishments, etc. Empty spice jars or baby food jars make great containers for these small items.
•   Borders. Keep a good supply of borders on hand. These can be put in the back of the album containing your stickers.
As much as possible, you'll want to keep your scrapbooking supplies organized. Thankfully there are containers you can purchase that are designed to store paper, glue, hole punchers, etc. If possible, designate an area of a room for your supplies. If you're able to have easy access to your crafts, you're a lot more apt to use them.

Use your imagination to come up with personalized baby gifts

Looking for baby gifts but tired of seeing the same, old stuff like toys, clothes etc. in stores and catalogs? How about tweaking that stuff a bit here and there and making your own personalized baby gifts? Then be it a baby shower or a christening or holiday gifts, your gifts will stand out as unique presents to be kept as fond mementoes for years to come.

The most mundane of gifts can be converted into something different with some application of your imagination and creativity. For instance, photo albums are popular gift items for babies but how about adding your own personal touch to the store-bought gift by way of adding a few bows or ribbons or colored tapes here and there? And if you are artistically inclined you can even hand paint the cover or/ pages of the album. The easier option is to stick ready-made baby stickers and die-outs in the album with enough space left for the pictures. While on pictures of the baby another wonderful gifting idea is to get the photos transferred onto mugs, bowls, clocks, cushions or pillows or blankets and even items of clothing like t-shirts. Wooden plaques with a picture of the baby and a few lines on the occasion it was presented also make for unique baby gifts. This special technology really helps you come up with a novel gift and something which will be cherished by the parents.

Ceramic dishes which are hand painted and safe for the baby are also available in the market. These cups, bowls, plates not only look pretty and colorful but also stand out from the rest of the gifts. As an added dimension you can have some tidbits abut the baby put up on the dishes to make the present unique.

Grandparents, godparents or close family/friends like to present personalized baby gifts and although these are not something new, nevertheless, engraved silver mementoes still top their list. Along with the baby's name and the giver's name, if a few personal lines could also be engraved, the gift could become even more special. A favorite uncle, aunt or grandparent will forever remain in the memory this way. Silver items normally include spoons, bowls, picture frames, plates and trinkets like bracelets or pendants. Use Kids Decals To Make Baby Gifts!

Have you ever wished you could create unique baby gifts for those sweet little people in your life? Personalized or monnogrammed gifts are beautiful and memorable but often expensive. If you're like me, I enjoy the challenge of creating my own gifts, that are still beautiful and memorable, but are more friendly to my wallet! However, I realize there are many folks out there who say, "Yeah, that's a nice idea, but I have no artistic talent!" No worries... this particulare project requires only a bit of courage, a few hours of time and NO artistic abitlity.

In this article, I will walk you through the process of how you can create a personalized baby gift for that next little baby who needs a "welcome to the world" gift! What makes this project both simple and professional looking is the proper use of kids decals. These decals give the appearance that you've spent hours tediously hand painting the gift, when if fact, it only took minutes.

In case you are not familiar with kids decals, let me catch you up to speed. Decals are a rising trend in the world of interior design and are nothing short of amazing! They are thin, flexible, but durable, vinyl stickers that are capable of being removed and repositioned multiple times. They leave no sticky residue behind and they won't peel paint. Most people think of using kids stickers for walls or furniture, but they really offer endless possibilities for decorating childrens living space, making art and gifts. Kids decals come in all shapes, sizes and themes.

So, let's get started! First of all, you have to buy your kids decals! Truly there are so many options and themes available. I suggest looking for a grouping or set of smaller decals. For little girls, there are fairies, flowers, butterflies, etc. For boys, you may be interested in a baseball, ship, jungle animals, etc. Also, keep in mind that you can cut decals to fit the size project you're working on. Now for the "Project"!!

Step 1: Gather your supplies and make your plans. You'll need a wooden plaque. These can be purchased at your local craft store. I suggest a size bigger than 8 x 10, otherwise, you'll start running out of room till you get to your decal. The rest of the supplies you need are primer, acrylic paints, brushes, pencil, chalk and a paper plate. Pick your paint colors to coordinate with the colors of your decal. I suggest only using 1-3 different colors to avoid it becoming too busy.

Step 2: Primer your plaque. If the colors you plan to paint your plaque are light, then go with a white primer. If the colors are darker, you'll save yourself time by using a gray primer because you won't need as many coats to get a true color.

Step 3: Paint your plaque with the background color of your choice. I suggest 2-3 thinner coats of paint or until you get a true color and you can't see the primer through the paint anymore. Let the paint dry!

Step 4: I like to create a boarder on the plaque, either with stripes or a scallop edge. Stripes are pretty straight forward to create. Just make sure you use a ruler to keep them straight. For a scalloped edge (looks beautiful on a girl plaque), sketch in your scallops using a round object. Trace the top half of the circle around the outside edge of your plaque. A few tips; roughly measure out your circles, so that you don't run out of room at the end of the plaque. Try different round objects around your house until you find one that works. I used the bottom of the paint bottles and they worked perfectly.

Step 5: Paint your scalloped edge and the center of your plaque - that is if you're using a scalloped edge. Again, I suggest 2-3 thinner coats of paint or until you get a true color and you can't see the primer through the paint anymore. Now, let the paint dry!

Step 6: Create the monnogram or name. First, print out the letters and date from your computer. Pick a font that you like and print it out in the size you want. In order to copy it onto your plaque, rub chalk on the back of the printed paper. Place the chalked letters onto your plaque. Now with a ball-point pen, trace over the printed letters and date. When you're done, you'll have a chalk outline of the letters and dates to paint over. The great thing about this is, if you don't get your letters or date centered the first try, you can just wipe the chalk off and go for try #2.

Step 7: Paint in your letters and date with a coordinating color. Use a fine point brush for the lettering! Don't worry, if you mess up, keep some background color handy and you can fix up your mistakes with a little of that paint.

Step 8: Add your childrens wall stickers. Simply peel them off the backing they came on, stick them to the dry plaque and press down the edges! Because these childrens wall stickers are removable, you don't have to worry about getting it right the first time. If it's off center, just peel it up and reapply it!
