Scrapbooking has been keeping many creative mothers out there busy. It's not only a fun hobby, but gives you a beautiful way to treasure all of your fondest memories - especially those of your baby growing up. For those of you out there who don't feel that you are creative enough to get into scrapbooking, do not worry! It really isn't difficult and doesn't require you to be artistically gifted at all.
Putting together a scrap book is basically just a way for you to capture your fondest memories, moments and milestones. You do not need fancy borders and paper, nor do you need ribbons or beautiful embellishments (although they would add a really nice touch to your scrapbook). Although scrapbooking classes are quite the rave these days, you don't need to sign up for one either.
All you need to do is remember to "keep it simple" and create a scrapbook purely to savor your special moments with your baby and also the rest of the family. By creating a scrapbook, you can use it to file all those loose birthday cards, photographs, ticket stubs and whatever else you want to remember, neatly - all in one place for easy access years down the track.
Scrapbooks can be as simple or complex as you want and really, it is purely up to you what you want to store in it. Avoid trying to include everything about your baby initially, as there will probably be too many things to add in and you might be just a little overwhelmed. Organization is the key to a great scrapbook, choose the areas which you find interesting and begin putting them together from there.
If you plan on having multiple children, it is probably best you have one scrapbook for each child where you can include pictures of your pregnancy, ultrasound scans, photographs of the hospital room where you had your labor, their baby hand prints and also their first birthday party photos and birthday cards, just to name a few.
Some other ideas for your scrapbook could also include your child's first handwriting or artwork, and you could even add in some handwritten notes about what your toddler's first words are or unusual habits they have. Your kids will grow up and truly treasure these memories you have archived for them and the resulting scrapbook will end up being one of the best creative investments you will make.
Scrapbooking can also serve as a bonding tool to help you and your child communicate better. As your child gets older, get him or her to help you put together the on-going pages of the scrapbook in the form of stories. You might have a story of when your son first learned to ride his bike, or one about your baby girl's recent birthday party with all her friends present. If you have recently taken a family trip somewhere, compile your activities and experiences in the scrapbook as well. This process not only keeps those memories recent and vivid in your mind but your child's as well.
