Buying and Replacing Ink and Toner Cartridges
If you print many sheets of paper with your printer, you will soon need to replace your ink or toner cartridges. An ink cartridge is for an ink jet printer, while a toner cartridge is for a laser printer. The cost of a single toner cartridge can be 3 to 4 times higher than an ink cartridge. But it can also print 3 to 4 times as much.
When buying printers, you should always think about the cost of printing. Are you going to use the printer at home, or is it for business? How many sheets will you be printing each day. Once you are clear about the usage, spend a little time to calculate the cost of printing. Today, printers are very affordable. But bear in mind that you will have to replace ink cartridges very often, depending on how often you use the printer.
Therefore, the bulk of the costs (in the long term) will be associated with ink or toner cartridges. Make a quick search on the Internet for the type of printer that you want to buy. Check out the pricing for the cartridges. How many sheets can a single cartridge produce? How long will that last you? And finally, how much will that cost you?
Typically, ink cartridges run out pretty quickly as ink jet printers are not designed to be heavy duty printers. If you just want to print something occasionally (as in home use), an ink jet printer will do just fine. But if you print almost everyday, then a laser printer would be more ideal. The toner cartridge lasts much longer, and you don't have to replace cartridges so often. In the long run, you tend to save more money with laser printers.
The initial investment for a laser printer may be much higher compared to an ink jet printer. A high end printer can easily cost several thousand dollars. This type of heavy duty printer can print at amazingly fast speeds. It is most suitable for an organization with several employees. All the employees can share the printer on a network. If you need a printing solution for a small group of people (about 3 to 5) who print moderately, then a budget laser printer would be ideal. Such a printer would cost you about $500.
Ink and toner cartridges are widely available on the Internet. You can place your order, and have the cartridges delivered to your doorstep on a regular basis. When buying cartridges, make sure you buy at least two to ensure that you have a backup just in case your ink runs out. If you are printing an important document, having your printer fail on you can be disastrous. When the ink runs out, simply replace the empty cartridge with your backup cartridge, and place a new order immediately. The new cartridges will arrive in a day or two.
Try to buy from the same vendor to enjoy better service and discounts. Regular customers tend to be given special privileges. Also, if you want to enjoy better discounts, buy more cartridges in a single order.
